A major earthquake hit the southern coast of Chile Sunday, sending hundreds of Chileans to higher ground on fears of a tsunami. The Chilean navy, however, has said that such a threat is so far unwarranted. The quake, which registered at a magnitude of 7.1, was based about 370 miles south of the capital Santiago, in the Araucania region. There have been no reports of damages or deaths yet. Just last February, a devastating quake hit central Chile, from which the country is still recovering.
